Paros Cookery
Our venue for this 5 day culinary experience is set in the beautiful craggy cove of AGIA IRINI - a private bay with ten secluded Cycladic style houses nestling at the sea shore, with water almost lapping at your feet. We offer a complete package - from your arrival in Greece - right through to your departure, and everything in between - including hotels and sea transfers.
We offer a complete package - from your arrival in Greece - right through to your departure, and everything in between - including hotels and sea transfers.
This includes your course, accommodation, all meals and wines, excursions, overnight hotel (Athens) - in fact all you need in addition is some pocket money - and of course the bribe for Martin for one of his course diplomas!
Courses are normally restricted to 12 (min. 6) - but partners are welcome to join you.
On arrival at the airport we will place you in one of our hand picked 3 star hotels - you may upgrade to 5 star (supplement applicable).
Then, freshened up after your flight, we will escort you to a typical Greek taverna, where you will meet the rest of your course mates. After breakfast we will transfer you to the port of Piraeus for the high speed ferry (2hrs.) to Paros. On arrival, a short drive will take you to our private village of Agia Irini where, after your Meze lunch - the courses will begin.
DAY ONE (Arrival Day)
After lunch there will be an introduction to the history of Greek cooking, with an insight to the traditional ingredients. A short demonstration will be followed by a hands on session to prepare your first Greek feast! After a few Ouzos or other aperitifs, it will be our first dinner together under the stars. Good food, good wine and excellent company: what better way to end your first night in Paros?
DAY TWO
After a typical Greek breakfast it's off to the picturesque mountain village of LEFKES, calling in at the studio YRIA pottery on the way. After coffee in the delightful village square you will have some free time to wander round and view the quaint houses and balcony gardens. Leaving LEFKES you will then take the herb trail down the BYZANTINE ROAD to PRODROMOS where you will lunch at the original taverna of TSITSANIS. After lunch it's back to AGIA IRINI on local transport: truly sampling the Greek way of life. On your return it's back to cooking - and NICOS will introduce you to the health giving properties of the herbs. Dinner will be accompanied by some smooth PAROS wines, and maybe some live BOUZOUKI music.
DAY THREE
After breakfast we will let you escape for a free day to explore the island - visit the craft shops , visit the local butcher and take an Ouzo with him - the list is endless, but we will be on hand to guide you to get the best from this day. (Car and motorcycle hire is available). Alternatively, you may just wish to chill out on the terrace, wander down to the sea for a swim - whatever - just prepare yourself for a fun packed evening at the local Taverna!
DAY FOUR
After breakfast, we will take you on our walking tour -The Wild Side of Greek Life, where we will introduce you to mountain greens, wild asparagus and capers which you can pick (April-May only; alternative i tinerary for Sept. - Oct. courses). On the way back you will stop off at a Winery to sample some of PAROS' finest wines. Suitably fortified we will then take you off to CHAPEL ISLAND for a picnic lunch on our two boats - one fast one slow - your choice. The afternoon sees your last cookery demonstration with the whole team present to prepare your last Island dinner.
DAY FIVE (Departure Day)
After breakfast sample authentic Octopus fishing with VASSILS - if that doesn't appeal, then relax by the sea and reflect on the past week and prepare yourself for the Greek Bar-B-Q and the Diploma award ceremony.
