Tosca
Tosca has a large balcony/terrace. The comfortable living room has high ceilings and exposed beams, and there is a small hallway that leads to the kitchen. One large twin bedroom and one double bedroom; bathroom.

Aida
Aida is the ground floor apartment with patio doors leading onto its own large terrace. There is a grand open plan living area with two big arches, one forming a kitchen with all facilities and the other creating a double sleeping area with its own shower room. There is a big double bedroom with patio doors leading to another terrace and a full bathroom.

When Castelnuovo Farmhouse is rented as a whole, Aida on the ground floor can provide dining facilities for up to twelve people, either inside or outside on the large terrace.

All three apartments are centrally heated, so are suitable for winter lets too.

Outside Facilities
Castelnuovo Farmhouse is surrounded by sixty acres of private land, mainly forested hillside. Guests are welcome to explore the grounds. A delightful setting and faded formal reminders of the rich history of the property remain throughout the grounds – stone arches and fountains, and gracious cypress trees frame the many vistas. There is a lovely swimming pool of 4 x 12 metres.

A cook can also be arranged.

Heating is charged and payable locally from 1st October to 1st May.

Local Area
The Farmhouse is situated above a little Village called Torrite, and about ten minutes’ walk (less than 1 km) from the market town of Castelnuovo. Castelnuovo enjoys a weekly market every Thursday. This medieval town represents the centre of this beautiful area, well known for its mountains, lakes, valleys, caves, and its excellent food.

The exclusive seaside resort of ‘Forte de Marmi’ or the City of Lucca are about 45 – 60 minutes drive from the estate. Other towns are Massi and Carrara, approached by driving through some spectacular countryside with views over mountains and valleys.

Castelnuovo Garfagnana is the centre of this beautiful area, and all around there are attractive mediaeval villages, the best known being Barga, where an Opera Festival is held every summer. Nearby is the house of the Poet Giovanni Pascoli, and Viarregio is famous for its Carnival, held in February.

Other area worth visiting include: Lucca (45 minutes drive); Montecatini, famous for its Spa Water and Casinos (1 hour’s drive); and Florence about 1½ hour’s drive away.

If one wants to venture further such as to the Islands of Elba, Corsica or Sardinia, these can be reached from the Harbour of Livorno, a 90-minute drive away.

Milan and Rome are about three hours and thirty minutes drive away. There is a very good train service to all these destinations. If you relish the best in traditional Italian food, and don’t mind a drive to get it, Portofino is about 2½ hour's drive away. Locally, however, there are many other restaurants in this unspoiled part of Italy.

Boat Trip:
Or, for a perfect day out, travel to Portofino in great style and luxury on a beautiful motor launch. The price is € 1,400 to Portofino or € 1,200 to Porto Venere & Cinque Terre (a shorter distance). Both are day trips and include a light lunch and drinks. This is a great favourite with clients.

In terms of sports facilities there is a Gym a few minutes walk from the villa. Tennis courts and an indoor pool are also about ten minutes away, and golf facilities about twenty minutes away.

There is also a small food shop and supermarket within walking distance.

Directions
Pisa and Florence Airports are both about an hour and twenty minutes drive from Castelnuovo Farmhouse. For excursions, there are very good ferry services form Livorno (1½ hours drive) to the islands of Elba, Corsica and Sardinia.
