| CASA VIEJA |
|
| |
|
Traditional village house sleeping up to 6, beautifully restored to create a charming holiday villa in Gaucin, one of Andalucia’s most picturesque Pueblos Blancos in Southern Spain. Much featured in various magazines, Casa Vieja is a large and spacious village house with a private swimming pool and extensive patio. A fabulous, large roof terrace with spectacular views towards the Mediterranean and on a clear day, the Atlas mountains of North Africa. RECOMMENDED AS ONE OF TEN GREAT VILLAS IN SPAIN BY CONDE NAST TRAVELLER MAGAZINE AND IN CONDE NAST TRAVELER, WENDY'S ROLODEX WORLDWIDE VILLA RENTAL GUIDE.
The whole property is beautifully decorated and furnished to create a charming, rustic atmosphere which is much enjoyed by all who stay there. It is ideally located in the heart of this lovely working village of Gaucin, is within walking distance of bars and restaurants, and yet is very private, making it a perfect holiday property.
Casa Vieja will accommodate up to 6 people but it must be noted that the third bedroom is smaller and has a separate cloak/shower room, while the other two bedrooms are ensuite. Created from two former townhouses this property has been turned into a stunning town villa with internal courtyard, walled garden and lovely private pool. A mature fig tree gives shade in summer yet allows sun in winter. Spread over three floors, the well thought-out layout feels very cosy and comfortable. We do not recommend this property for families with children under ten years old, as the bedrooms are quite separate from one another. However with all this space, this property is a real treat when occupied by only a couple.

Accommodation Details An architect and his designer wife own this unusual property, and their excellent taste and attention to detail is apparent immediately. Spreading between two village streets, the house is of exceptional design and character.
Entering through the spacious reception/dining room with wood-burning stove, there is a large refectory dining table and a piano. Through to the hall, stairs lead up to the living room, the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and the lovely roof terrace for shaded al fresco dining.
Back inside, off the hall, there is the cloak/shower room.
Then into the beautifully decorated kitchen, well equipped with everything a keen cook may want. There is a breakfast table and a stove.
From the kitchen another small flight of stairs lead up to the study, then on into the second bedroom with twin beds, and another large en suite bathroom with a king size bath. This bedroom also has access via French doors to the internal patio.
From the study you can go to the roof terrace or descend the flight of stairs to the pool area, the third bedroom, and the second entrance to this property.
Also from the kitchen, a flight of stairs leads down via the internal patio to the third bedroom, with a double bed and wash basin. The window looks out to the alcove and pool area. Just outside this room is the pool-patio with the barbecue, fridge and ample
space to play, dine, swim, or have a siesta in the alcove. Trailing flowers, a large fig tree and potted palms make this part of the property, with its teak wood garden furniture, a great private space to relax, dine al fresco, or read in the shade.
Outside Facilities From the roof terrace there are stunning views, and on a clear day the Rif Mountains of North Africa can be seen, with the sea shimmering in the distance, and an expanse of unspoilt countryside in between. The terrace has teak patio furniture, and an awning for shade.
Downstairs is a shaded patio, where the planting is very “andaluz”, full of lovely plants, a great sheltered spot. This leads through to the outside pool area which is equipped with a barbecue, fridge, teak furniture and ample space to play, dine, swim or have a siesta in the alcove. This space is extremely private and has a lovely atmosphere with trailing flowers, a large fig tree and potted palms.
The delightful pool measures 3 x 6 metres and has roman steps.
The property is situated in a residental corner of Gaucin. Parking is on the road outside, but this is not private parking. |

Testimonials
 | We stayed at Casa Vieja in Gaucin as a family of 5 and found the accommodation excellent. The views were outstanding and the decoration was high quality bohemian chic; it was more like going to stay in someone's home rather than a commercial let. This makes for a deeper experience, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We will definitely use Elysian again in the future.
| | | July 2009 | | | | Everything fantastic, thanks! Hopefully return one day. Jilly, the owner, was very lovely indeed. Thanks for everything! | | | June 2008 | | | | My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Vieja. The accommodation was superb and the service we received from yourselves excellent. | | | May 2008 | | | | We had a wonderful stay at Casa Vieja. They left us a nice selection of food items to get us started which was most appreciated. The villa itself was wonderful in everyway. It couldn’t have been a better experience.
| | | April 2007 | | | | Spacious - Ideal for 2 couples, very relaxing holiday, very peaceful. Provisions more than adequate - kitchenware. Nice to have a few groceries left for us! Luxurious bathrooms. Service from Elysian holidays was excellent. The service has been faultless, we will certainly recommend you to friends & family, particularly as it is so difficult to find reliable travel service providers these days. | | | | | | Casa Vieja is a fabulous house - peaceful, lovely views to Tangier and Gibraltar. Vultures circling overhead etc... real shame to be back. Thanks again! | | | | | | Hidden behind the white façades of Gaucín's small, seemingly identical houses are a number of surprisingly sophisticated homes. Overstuffed sofas, heavy drapes between rooms, original art and artifacts, books and bric-a-brac make Casa Vieja warm and welcoming, while the idiosyncratic layout - the house is bisected by an internal courtyard - add interest and privacy. | | | Peter Browne, Associate Editor, Conde Nast Traveller Magazine | | | | Gaucin's standout is Casa Vieja, a rustic chic townhouse featuring a deft blend of Italian and Moroccan furnishings and a swimming pool in a secret garden. | | | Richard Alleman, American Vogue |
