PRIVACY:
There are no buildings either side of Evangelini as the owner owns both these pieces of land, so it is very private. The house and grounds cannot be overlooked by anyone and the pool area is completely secluded. There are walls surrounding the entire property, with canes for added privacy where required. The gardens are very beautiful and extensive and this really is the sort of property that you enter, close the gates behind you and just relax in your own domain, in complete privacy.

CHILD-FRIENDLINESS:
The pond between the main house and annexe has been made competely childproof. It is 1 - 2 metres off the ground and there is a metal grille 5 cms under the water so making is completely safe even if a child (or anyone !) managed to fall into it. The owner has small children who have been brought up with this as their main holiday home so he has made absolutely sure that the house and grounds are child-friendly and safe.

The main residence and the annexe are approximately 50 metres apart.

MAIN RESIDENCE:
The main residence is a 240 sq.m.traditional two-storey neoclassic building, originally built in the 19th century and fully renovated in 1992-93. It consists of the beautiful glass windowed conservatory, the entrance hall, main sitting and dining room, a full kitchen (refrigerator, oven, dish-washer, washing machine) a WC for guests.

Bedrooms:
There is a twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower on the ground floor. On the first floor there are three more bedrooms, one double bedroom with a four poster bed and an extra single bed and two twin bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms with showers, in white marble. All bedrooms have access to spacious balconies.

There are marble floors on the ground-floor and wooden floors on the first floor and the entire house is decorated to a very high standard, in contemporary style, with authentic pieces of furniture, antiques and rugs. In this building, the sitting and dining room and all the bedrooms are equipped with wall-mounted electric heaters.

THE ANNEXE:
The second building is a single storey, village-type residence, consisting of three separate, self contained units and a cane-covered 100 sq.m. verandah.
The first unit is an apartment of approximately 45 sq. m. consisting of a living room with two built-in sofa beds and open plan kitchenette, a twin bedroom and ensuite bathroom with shower.
The second one consists of a double bedroom of approx.18 sq.m. and an ensuite bathroom with shower.
The third unit is a studio of approximately 30 sq.m. consisting of a twin bedroom, open plan kitchenette and ensuite bathroom with bath.

In this building there are rafted ceilings and the floors are covered with hand-made terracotta tiles. All three units are decorated in contemporary style with antique furniture.

GUEST STUDIO:
There is also a guest studio with twin beds and an ensuite shower room.

THE POOL HOUSE:
The pool-house is about 18 sq.m., and has twin beds, an ensuite bathroom with shower.

There is television, video and dvd player in the sitting room of the main building and a telephone in each room in both buildings. There is also a portable radio/CD player. The whole property is fully airconditioned.

The main villa can accommodate up to 9 people, the guest house up to 8 people, and with the pool house and guest studio the total capacity of this property is up to 21 people.

Outside Facilities
Villa Evangelini is situated in beautiful grounds of about 3,000 square metres. There is an extensive range of palm, pine and fruit trees which are lovingly cared for on a daily basis by the gardener. There are lovely flowers in abundance all around.

The grounds include an outdoor barbecue near the open fish pond. There are many shaded terraces including one with a wonderful vine covered pergola which is a perfect place for al fresco dining. The grounds have been very thoughtfully laid out. There is plenty of patio furniture.

The magnificent pool with its roman steps and gorgeous terraces measures 12 x 6 metres and has a depth of 0.70 - 2.60 metres. It is fed by a private well, and therefore is not prone to water shortages in the height of summer.

Meals:
Preparing breakfast, clearing away, ordering from the supermarket, preparing and clearing up lunch are all possible, but in order to cover all this the housekeeper/cook would have to stay longer hours to complete all duties.

She is also able to prepare and clear up dinner if required but this means that she has to go home and come back again - not a problem as she lives close by.

Arrangements and payments for food and time are made directly between clients and the housekeeper and the cost of overtime is approx. 14 euros per hour.

There is a gardener who works in the grounds every day for a few hours, tending to the trees, vegetables and so forth. He also takes care of the pool and external areas. There is also the head gardener/groundsman who is at the property occasionally to oversee the daily gardener.

All linen, domestic towels and pool towels are provided.

Electricity is an additional charge which is based on meter readings at the start and end of your rental, and payable locally.

Local Area
There are local shops and a number of small tavernas in the village, which is within easy walking distance. Possidonia (Dellagrazia) is a lovely village with some idiosyncratically ornate mansions and a bright blue domed church. It has two small hotels and a couple of tavernas on the beach of Agathopes, just 400 - 500 metres away or a short ten minute walk. This is a lovely sandy beach with a small islet offshore. There are other excellent beaches within walking distance of the villa.

This area is residential and therefore very quiet. There is a pharmacy, a bakery and a small supermarket which will deliver to the house. There is a shortcut to the beaches through the fields to the sea, which the owner can show to guests when he welcomes them to the house. There are two tavernas on the beach.

10 minutes drive away is the marina and fishing village of Finikas, which has 6 excellent tavernas, a couple of bars and a hotel, larger supermarkets and other shops.

The surrounding countryside is dramatic and mountainous.

The main watersport available on the island is windsurfing, but boat hire is also possible.

Ermoupoli, the capital, is a busy commercial port and is about 12 kms or a twenty minute drive away. This is a beautiful town and is an interesting visit. As Syros was once the Capital of the Cyclades, and at one time, Greece, it has some very impressive architecture as well as some fabulous restaurants and offers a wide range of nightlife and shopping opportunities.

The beautiful opera house has recently been restored and now has a programme of events running throughout the year.

Directions
There is an airport on Syros, so it is possible to fly into Athens and then to take an internal flight over to the island, which would only take about forty minutes.

Alternatively you can fly to Athens, then from the port of Piraeus take the high-speed ferry to Syros, which only takes about two hours.

EasyJet are now flying direct from the UK to Mykonos and Santorini and ferries run regularly to Syros.
